| Chasa community is a backward caste in western Orissa, who arrange marriages based on the vargas. Alliances between Chasa grooms and brides belonging to the same varga and sept are prohibited. Those vargas are Pitmundia, Hulbulsingia, Dumania and Giringia. Some of the totemistic names of the sept in chasa community are bachhas, dipas, nagas, harin, hasti or gaj, mahumachhi, and many more. A Chasa groom adorns a dhoti accompanied by a kurta, a jor, and a white silk cloth draped around the body. |
